Chromazoid- just a couple days left!

Hey guys.  So, some amazing former students of mine, and a few SAIC grads I never encountered, have joined together under the editorial brilliance of Ms. Lale Westvind to put together CHROMAZOID.  This is an amazing anthology of horror-themed comics, that is so close to being funded via Kickstarter.  There is little time left to give, so please, if you are reading this blog, give now.  I will post excerpts from this amazing color comics anthology below.

Game Over 4... tonight!

Okay! Tonight, at Giant Robot San Francisco, I have 6 watercolors based on Nintendo games. One based on Wind Waker, one of Donkey Kong and DK Jr, a happy painting of Mario and a Mario flagpole triptych. All framed and ready for the walls of nerds.

Like the underground comix artists in 1960’s Berkeley,Trubble Club brings together Chicago’s most talented young comics artists to draw some of the weirdest comics out there today. The group meets every Sunday at a rotating location and draws jam-comics together. One artist draws the first panel of a jam comic, and then passes it to another artist in the group to draw the second panel, who then passes it on to a third artist. This process is continued until the group has a finished comic. Trubble club then self-publishes the finished comics in minicomics.

Saturday, May 1st is Free Comic Book Day, when comic book stores around the country hand out free promotional comics to customers. Trubble Club will contribute a free comic, which apes PSA comics from the 70’s and 80’s, and will spend the evening drawing at Quimby’s, and prophesizing the future of audience members in comic-book form. Trubble Club contributors at the event will include Aaron Renier, Jeremy Tinder, Grant Reynolds, Russel Gottwaldt, Bernie McGovern, Lucy Knisley, Joe Tallarico, Nate Beaty, and many more.Refreshments for the event will be provided by Metropolitan Brewing, an Andersonville-based brewery whose German-inspired lagers are crafted with toasty malts, spicy hops and a ferocious DIY ethic.

Though the event starts at 7pm, Free Comic Book Day starts as soon as Quimby’s opens its doors at 11am.Quimby’s will have free comic books while supplies last from a host of artists. Free comics include the Short Pants Observer from Chicago-based small-press publisher, Short Pants Press, and the Xeric Grant winning graphic novel Black Mane by Michael LaRiccia.

Alright, week two of this action-packed month. First up, this Thursday and Friday is the Comics Symposium of Chicago, at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. I'll be moderating a panel discussion on self-publishing and distribution Thursday at 4:30, and I'll be a panelist Friday on a panel about professionalism in comics at 5:45.

Also, the Game Developer's Conference is happening in San Francisco this week, and Giant Robot SF has seized that opportunity to put on a show of art inspired by videogames. I have 5 framed watercolors in the show. Here are two of them:

Two openings and an APE!

This past weekend was a busy one for me. Friday, Rotofugi showed new paintings by me and Martin Ontiveros. Saturday, GRSF showed new paintings and drawings by me and Grant Reynolds. Both shows were a hoot. Much thanks to everyone who turned out.

I also sat at the Top Shelf table at APE (the Alternative Press Expo), and had a great time chatting up comic folks and seeing old friends. Cartoonists are reliably the nicest people in the world.

Tonight's the night! Tomorrow's the night!

Tonight, 7-10 PM, Rotofugi in Chicago. I'll be showing 35 paintings from my forthcoming graphic novel, "The Devourer of Men". The paintings are 11x17" each, on board, and each comes with a hand-made poplar shelf. Anyone who purchases a painting from this show will be personally thanked in the book upon its release!

Martin Ontiveros also has some awesome paintings!

Tomorrow, 6:30-10 PM, Giant Robot in San Francisco. I'll be showing 23 new paintings, and some collaborative drawings with Grant Reynolds. Grant also has an amazing series of drawings. Any painting of mine comes with a free little wooden head (or 2!).
